Cretaceous formation (Geol.), the series of strata of
various kinds, including beds of chalk, green sand, etc.,
formed in the Cretaceous period; -- called also the {chalk
formation}. See the Diagram under Geology.

the Mesozoic age during which the Cretaceous formation was
deposited.
